Learn How to Install an Automation Software

The specific software that we will going to install is a freeware, AutoIt v3 which is typically used to produce utility software for Microsoft Windows to automate common tasks:

  1. Download AutoIt Full Installation in AutoIt Downloads - AutoItScript. Internet connection required!
  2. Wait until your download succeed. (Estimated time of downloading: 8 minutes)
  3. After that, "Open" the new downloaded autoit-v3-setup program.
  4. Click "Yes" if your computer system warn you if Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?
  5. Before starting Setup, it will recommend to close all other applications because it will make it possible to update relevant system files without having to reboot your computer. Just click “Next >” to continue.
  6. You must accept the terms of the agreement by clicking “I Agree” to install AutoIt v3.3.8.1.
  7. Select a default option for *.au3 files.
    • “Run the script” makes the double left-clicking on an .au3 file run it.
    • “Edit the script” makes the .au3 script double left-clicking edit it.
    And click “Next >” to continue.
  8. Check the components you want to install and uncheck those you don't want.
    1. AutoIt Core Files are AutoIt and AutoIt Script Compiler.
    2. Script Examples are scripts that show you how to use AutoIt.
    3. UDF Script Examples are scripts that show you how to use UDFs.
    The "Full" package includes all components, "Lite" includes components number 1 & 2, "Minimal" includes just component no# 1, and in the "Custom" package you can check the components no# 1 & 3. The required space for "Full" is 21.0 MB, while in "Minimal" is 17.1 MB. Click “Next >” to continue.
  9. Now you will see the Destination Folder where Setup will install AutoIt. You can either click "Browse" and select another folder if you wish. And click "Install" to start the installation.
  10. Please wait while AutoIt (program) is being installed in just a minute!
  11. If the program has been installed, completing the AutoIt v3.3.8.1 Setup Wizard by checking if you want to Show release notes (check for script breaking changes), and click "Finish" to close the wizard.
    • If the setup program require to restart or reboot your PC, then just restart it to complete the installation.
  12. And then, you will now see the AutoIt Help documentations.
