Types of Online Marketing and Promotion

The advertising and promotion of products or services over the Internet is broadly divided into the following types:
  • Affiliate Marketing: An online business that can earn you a commission on every single affiliate that you've made, depend on the affiliate network if the model is based on pay per click (PPC) and cost per impression (CPM/CPI) or cost per action (CPA) or others. Generally, one of those who making this act is a publisher.
  • Content Marketing: The one of the best and effective ways to get some attention from articles or rich blogs or ebooks or news or any kind of media and publishing content which often gets their viewers from search engine results' pages. (SERPs)
  • Display Advertising: Commonly, an advertisement can be ordered in affiliate network with a cost depend on the model such if it have cost per impression (CPI) or have pay-per-click (PPC a.k.a. cost per click) or have cost per action (CPA) or cost per order or mix. But there are still some networks offered a free advertisement such craigslist.
  • Email Marketing: Is different from email spamming. One of the example of this type of promotion is a subscription links where your readers can easily subscribe to your product or your service via e-mail, and not forcing to sent your messages to a group of people using email without their willingness.
  • Referral Marketing: Just a kind of an action to refer someone to specific product or service in any way, either from blog, comment, video or anything. At least you're referring something on the Web, it can be called as an online referral marketing. Referring a business in off-topic way is a kind of a spam!
  • Search Engine Marketing (SEM): A strategy of webmasters to increase the visibility of their websites in search engine results' pages (SERPs), either through on-page factors or off-page factors of search engine optimization or through display advertising or both.
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an act to optimize the web search engines, it's divided into two classes which are nested below:
    1. On-Page Factors (On-Page SEO): By improving the elements of a web page or making it a search engine friendly, such by adding title and description on a page and making it rich or high quality, any work inside the managed website to make it a search engine friendly is an on-page factor.
    2. Off-Page Factors (Off-Page SEO): This is the opposite of on-page factors, any work outside of an own website to increase the PageRank (PR) of that site such by linking it on every other site, is an off-page factor. An off-page is still uses to optimize the search engines according to their systems.
  • Social Media Marketing: A strategy of referring products or services on social media websites, such as social networking sites and social sharing sites or even other “media and publishing content” like news which is used in the type content marketing of an online advertising.
  • Video Marketing: This type of promotion specializes in creating and uploading videos with some information related to a product or a service simply to attract the watchers from the business under it. This kind of Internet marketing is effective!
There are probably other types and classifications of Internet marketing that doesn't mentioned or listed above, but keep noted that there are overly promotional types of online advertising that doesn't belongs to be listed as a type of an online promotion.
